I came into the Dark Souls series late. Dark Souls came out in 2011. My first FromSoft game was Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. I loved the Tenchu games on Playstation 2 and the Xbox 360, so when I saw the trailer for Sekiro, I preordered it right away. Unfortunately, when I was able to play it, I was miserable. I struggled with the very first enemies in the tutorial area. I had to cheese the boss to even move past the tutorial. It was very different from the Tenchu games. It was frustrating because the game was beautiful.

I never beat Sekiro, but it introduced me to one of my favorite games of all time, Dark Souls. I had heard of it before but never had the desire to play it. In 2016, right before Dark Souls 3 came out, my buddy streamed Dark Souls 2 on Twitch to show me how difficult it was. I didn't get it. It didn't pull me in.

Fast forward to 2019 and Sekiro, a truly fantastic game, but not necessarily for me. I fell in love with the world and the challenge, even if it was too difficult for me, and thought I would check out another FromSoft game, Dark Souls. I am glad I did because it introduced me to this beautiful series. From the beautifully created worlds to the fantastical lore, I have enjoyed (sometimes very frustrated) every moment I played.

If you like fantasy and challenging boss fights, do yourself a favor and at least try these games. Maybe you will fall in love with them as I and many others did.
